Moodscapes: New series of landscapes by Fabio Borg showing at Il-Kamra Ta’ Fuq

Mqabba’s Il-Kamra ta’ Fuq is welcoming the latest exhibition by the acclaimed visual artist Fabio Borg. Titled Moodscapes, the exhibition, curated by Melanie Erixon, showcases Borg’s evolution from his traditional landscapes to a bold new foray into abstract expressionism. The exhibition is available for viewing from January 12th to February 4th, 2024.

Borg, known for his landscapes and treescapes, takes a significant turn in his artistic journey with Moodscapes. Moving away from his usual reliance on tangible landscapes and photographs, Borg now delves into the realm of abstract expressionism. This shift marks an inward focus, with Borg drawing from his inner vision and emotions. The resulting artworks are characterised by vibrant, unrealistic colours and assertive lines, creating a harmonious balance between intensity and subtlety.

This new collection came to life in a short period, spurred by the invitation to exhibit at Il-Kamra ta’ Fuq. Borg chose to retain a raw, ‘alla prima‘ feel in these works, reflecting his instinctive approach to art. The artworks, executed primarily on paper, employ a combination of acrylics, oil pastels, and pencils, presenting a unified and innovative feel.

Fabio Borg, born in 1974 of Italian and Maltese descent, began his artistic education in Malta before studying in Italy. His interaction with Italian artists and encouragement from the late Gabriel Caruana significantly shaped his career. Borg’s works have evolved to exhibit a more abstract and minimalist style, characterised by a limited colour palette and a focus on conceptual art.

Moodscapes promises to be a journey through Borg’s artistic evolution, offering viewers a chance to experience his unique perspective and emotional expression. The exhibition is an exciting opportunity for art enthusiasts to witness a new chapter in Borg’s prolific career.

The exhibition is open to the public at Il-Kamra ta’ Fuq from January 12th to February 4th, 2024.
