About me

Short Bio

Michela Grech is a Maltese artist born in 1996. She has read for a B.A. (Hons) in Fine Arts. Her primary focus is on the everyday and taken-for-granted moments that make up her personal life.

Relying on introspection and self-awareness, Grech reflects on life. Hence her work revolves around her state of being in relation to surrounding relationships, spaces and objects. Being part of the generation of social media filters and blurred realities, Grech’s work is a juxtaposition of the algorithm of the daily newsfeeds.

The artist focuses mainly on paintings, however tackles this medium with a drawing approach. All her work is characterized by line. Her true state of being is visibly unfiltered. This can be seen through the use of organic, gestural line drawing. This automatic means of execution results in agile creations. Her later work has been introduced to embroidery and stitching techniques. This slows down the process, giving the artist more time to reflect and be with the subject matter that is being studied.

With a balanced use of impulse and selectivity, Grech’s work is a true representation of her unfiltered reality.
