Short Bio

Mario Cassar (b.1975) is a visual artist and visual art educator whose work, appearing in the art scene of Malta at the end of the 1990s, investigates the effect of superimposing various layers of meanings, texts, signs and symbols on images and how this affects the viewer. He works in drawing, painting, sculpture, installation, film and photography.

2013: Represented Malta in Erasmus (European Cities) – Brussels, The Hague.
2013: Winner of competition for the interior design of St. Francis Church, Mississauga, Canada
2015, 2016: Winner of national projects in collaboration with Żebbug Gozo Youth Local Council organized by the Government of Malta
2016: Winner of Kreattiv project “Stejjir” issued by the Malta Arts Fund
2017: Winner of “Premju tal-President għall-Kreattivita’
2019: Winner in public sculpture project by Żebbug Local Council commemorating WWII at Marsalforn Bay.
