Macrocosm

Light is very intriguing as it is a very powerful tool. It can move people in the sense of stirring up emotions and feelings just like music does. However, in the art world when it comes to paintings, light is generally used to light the painting, as without it nothing can be seen. Shadows, on the other hand, are the result of lighting. Even though light is a very powerful tool, in Malta neither light nor shadows are given much importance. Certain alchemy symbols like that of the sun, air, and earth are used and with them, a new composition is created. Alchemy symbols were referred to because in this project, the metaphor of changing light and coloured shadows into a painting is compared to alchemy, where metals are changed into gold; invaluable things are changed into valuable ones.
