Brides on Beds

An Ethnographic Project about Brides before they put on their dress

Catholic and highly traditional weddings in Malta demand that the bride leaves her parent’s home prior the ceremony. On this day though few are conscious of the big transition that they are going through – from girlhood to womanhood. Set in their parent’s or their own bedroom with hair and make up done, yet not wearing their wedding dress, the brides are documented incomplete which allows one to reflect upon their journey ahead. This project emphasizes the fleeting instance where the bride is still a girl in her parent's, or her own, bedroom about to get ready. There is a moment of reflection. A pause. The way forward is a new title together with her partner as husband and wife.
