Exhibition of Oil Paintings by Catherine Cavallo

Serenity and upheaval is an exhibition of oil paintings by Catherine Cavallo, which, according to the artist, represent the pockets of serenity that are to be found amidst all life’s upheavals. Her latest exhibition in oil paintings will be held at the Malta Society of Arts in Valetta all throughout December. For a private viewing please contact the artist.

Catherine Cavallo is a well -known contemporary realist painter who lives and works in Malta. An accomplished and fully trained artist Catherine earned a 1st class honours diploma from the City & Guilds School of Art in London, finding inspiration both in the UK where she honed her figurative work and then in Italy, where her love for landscape painting was born, before returning to her home here in Malta. She is also the recipient of various awards and accolades.
Based in St. Pauls’ Bay, her work is rooted in observations of the everyday and inspired by the pockets of serenity she looks for amidst the upheavals that life presents. Her love of the outdoors is evident in her picturesque land and seascapes, powerful subjects, and evocative figurative compositions.
The figurative works are results of observing life around her, both superficially and in great depth. She moves seamlessly between depicting ‘Pastizzi at Crystal Palace, to expressing the plight of the refugees, especially the children. Her ideas are mostly influenced by life in Malta, but also inspired by current world situations. These figurative works are time-consuming and demanding, so l intersperse them with scapes, working in mixed medium, which provide a welcome change to the more intense discipline she exercises in her figurative paintings. Her preferred method is working with oils, applied with the palette knife.
Her work has been exhibited extensively over the past 35 years, both locally and overseas and her paintings grace many private and public collections.
