City Lights, a Charles City Gatt retrospective exhibition

Organised by Festivals Malta as part of the Malta Jazz Festival 2022, an exhibition of 19 abstract paintings from different periods by is-City has been set up at the Palm Court Lounge at The Phoenicia, Malta. The paintings are very much a reflection of his character: reflective and introspective, but energetic at the same time, when one notices the intense brushwork in the paintings.

City has a connection with The Phoenicia Malta since he himself organised an art exhibition of his installation “Freedom Fighters” at the iconic hotel that coincided with the Jazz on the Fringe event that he founded and organised in July 2014. It is therefore fitting that this retrospective exhibition of City’s own paintings and photographs of him in action as a musician, is being held at The Phoenicia, Malta

The exhibition also showcases 10 photographs of is-City taken by Sabine Meyer, a member of Frequenzen, a European art group that City was also part of.

The exhibition is curated by Dr Charlene Vella.
