Narratives for Postmodern Love: A solo exhibition by Gabriel Buttigieg

Narratives for Postmodern Love, an ongoing solo exhibition by the painter Gabriel Buttigieg, is currently being showcased at The Splendid in Valletta’s Strada Stretta, under the curation of Lisa Gwen.

This exhibition is more than just a display of paintings; it’s an intimate exploration of Gabriel Buttigieg’s identity as an artist and the essence of his art. The Splendid, a venue with its own unique context and history, is completely transformed by this collection. Each artwork is tailored to resonate with the space’s distinct ambiance, making the exhibition a cohesive visual narrative.

The theme of Narratives for Postmodern Love delves deep into the complexities of love in the 21st century. It portrays love as a multi-faceted, intricate, and often challenging emotion, encompassing feelings of confusion, rawness, uncertainty, loneliness, pain, and fear. This theme is reflective of the contemporary era’s nuanced understanding and experience of love.

Buttigieg’s collection stands out for its intensely personal nature. Through his paintings, he expresses his deepest emotions, creating a series of works that are not just visually striking but emotionally resonant. The exhibition is structured in a way that unfolds these narratives, allowing viewers to engage with and see reflections of their own emotions and experiences in his art.

Narratives for Postmodern Love offers a compelling insight into modern relationships and the emotional landscape of love today, inviting viewers to connect with the art on a personal level. Buttigieg’s exhibition is a poignant commentary on contemporary love, providing a mirror to the viewer’s own feelings and experiences in this complex world.

The exhibition was launched on Thursday 7th December, and it’s set to go on until 22nd December. The body of work is available for viewing between Monday to Friday from 3pm to 8pm, and on Saturdays from 10am to 4pm.

This project is supported by The Splendid, Andre Gialanze Photography, DV Trading, Gemelli Framing and Funderija Artistika Chetcuti.
