About me

Short Bio

I’m a Maltese ceramicist and I’ve been hooked on working with clay ever since I was 11. I had attended lessons by Anna Ciavola, a Maltese artist, and was immediately drawn to the versatile nature of clay.

Mainly self-taught, I’ve worked in studios in Edinburgh and East London and Tallinn. I love to try out different techniques and glazes, and my curiosity has led me to experiment with various firing methods including raku for my sculptures, and anagama for some vases.

I am currently based in Berlin. I run a community studio called Clayground. The studio offers a membership based space for makers and artists to work. It also offers residence-like spots to artists who are looking for a space to work on a project for a month or more.

Apart from the daily runnings of the studio, I work in my own projects which include tableware for restaurants and cafes, as well as home-ware items which are sold in stores in Berlin and Malta.
I also enjoy collaborations with artists from different artistic backgrounds as well as with architects.l working on specific projects.

Working in different environments and immersing myself in different cultures has helped me to develop my own style, confidence, and an enriched sense of aesthetics.

The majority of my work is wheel-thrown, although some sculpture-work creeps in from time to time, mostly in the form of wall-sculptures. My favoured material is stoneware – for which I mix my own high-fire glazes.

The pieces are varied and include one-off creations. I focus mostly on functional forms and draw inspiration from my surroundings and travels. Nature, with its forms and colours, has a strong influence on my work, both in structure, texture and glaze.
