Visions of Peace

September 30, 2021 @ 7:30 pm - 10:30 pm

Free

111 ART is pleased to present the exceptional work of the spiritualist Eduard Milan to the public on the 30th of September 2021.
This exhibition is for Art connoisseurs who have a taste for Outsider Art, and for novel art collectors who want to dwell deeper into the world of art. The visionary art of Eduard Milan, now in his 70’s, is sure to enthral the viewers with its dizzying complexity, vortexes of swirling psychedelic patterns and labyrinthine designs of skies that look like maps with pathways to other worlds.
Unlike most other of the exhibitions 111 ART has presented so far, this body of work shows a selection from the last thirty years of private moments of meditation during which Milan painted whilst communicating with his angelic guides. This collection is about showing a private world to the public in which art was produced as a necessity and not as a product, making this unique and very different from contemporary artists who seek to play an active role in society.
The opening will be held at 111 ART Gallery, at Garden Street, Gzira and Abate Rigord Street, Ta’ Xbiex on Thursday 30th September at 7 pm. A complimentary drink will be served. The exhibition will be open to the public from Tuesday to Saturday from 2pm onwards up until Friday 15th October.
Eduard Milan (b.1951)
111 ART is very proud to present Eduard Milan’s work, a gem of Art Brut, Outsider, Visionary and Spiritualist art as part of his solo exhibition “Visions of Peace” held in September 2021.
The spiritualist Eduard Milan was born in a German military camp to a Polish mother out of wedlock just after World War II. Eduard endured a difficult childhood, being separated from his mother at the age of ten and sent to the charity of displaced children, of which he has fond memories. He was in and out of foster families until his teenage years.
Milan’s first spiritual experience happened when he was seven years old. He recounts how his first out of body experience happened while he was building sandcastles with other children, when he suddenly felt like he was being taken up to heaven and to the moon, while walking on stars which looked like diamonds. He recalls how he picked a star up and suddenly fell back to earth to be back with the other children. He is still surprised how at the time, nobody had realised that he had left his body.
At the age of twenty-five, Milan joined a global spiritualist movement. He married his wife after the very first time he met her in the 80’s and they have lived happily together since.
Eduard has led a simple life working as a woodwork machinist during the day to support his family, and painting in the evening as a form of meditation. He believes in astral projection, which is an intentional self-guided out of body experience, that assumes the existence of an astral body that is separate from the physical body and capable of travelling outside it throughout the universe, hence Milan’s beautiful colourful skies in his artworks. It is very clear to see that for Milan, painting is his spiritual mission.
Milan paints during intuitive trance sessions lasting a couple of hours each, during which he communicates with his angelic guides about the purpose of life, the beauty of nature, healing meditation and self-awareness. He has been receiving and translating his answers in his paintings for the last thirty years. Nowadays he has stopped astral projection and is spending more time in meditative intuition and trance states, which he considers safer.
When one looks at Eduard’s extensive body of work, he is met with an angelic spiritual code. His art is characterised by its dizzying complexity, a vortex of swirling psychedelic patterns and labyrinthine designs, of skies that look like maps with pathways to other worlds. Swallows, cranes, and angels populate his colourful landscapes with a small crowd of onlookers looking up above at the mesmerising skies. His galaxies are populated with black holes and floral patterns. His use of glitter adds to heightened level of other worldliness and disconnection from the ordinary material world. Milan has been using painting as a medium to connect with spirits for over 20 years.
