‘homebody’ is Maria Borg’s first solo exhibition, it is opening on the 22nd January 2021 at Muza, Specifically, in the community Space, Auberge d’Italie, Valletta.
The work exhibited was created over the period of 6 years. It was started at a residency in a remote part of Scotland.
This exhibition focuses on painting objects. The paintings obsess over texture; the softness of the fabric and the heaviness of the body that inhabited them. They tease by evoking a presence that interacted with the subject that is no longer there. This absence lends the objects a heavy aura which suggests that they will be around for much longer than we will.
Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions attending the opening night is by invite only.
The exhibition will however also include 5 ‘Meet the artist’ dates which are open to everyone. Dates are as follows:
24th and 31st of January from 1-4
7th, 14th and 21st of February 1-4
