‘The Lands’ series

'The Lands' series features the female figure prominently in an arid landscape. In the midst of this bareness, Mediterranean fecundity is still vibrantly evident, with the sea being ever present in his work. The series moves from the total abandonment of the two figures in a stance reminiscent of death to the symbolic oneness in the second drawing, which is replete of life. The figures mirror each other in a contrasting stance in the third drawing, with both being fully immersed in water, the lifegiving source which Buttigieg is fascinated with.
