Austin Camilleri surprises everyone with LE.IVA a temporary public sculpture part of his upcoming exhibition

Last night we witnessed the installation of the amazing public art sculpture LE.IVA by Austin Camilleri. The pure white, life-size figure sits beautifully on the edge of a corner off Merchant street in Valletta.  The temporary installation hits off the momentum and forms part of his upcoming exhibition LE. IVA Anger Is a lazy Form of Grief, curated by internationally acclaimed Curator Rosa Martinez , accompanied by Assistant Curator Irene Biolchini. Opening on Friday 25th February 2022 in Space C at Spazju Kreattiv.
The much-anticipated exhibition by one of the most renowned artist on the island comes after an absence of more than 10 years from his last solo show on Maltese soil, the artist presents new works produced over the past five years. Drawing mainly on Western art history, popular culture, and power image traditions, Austin Camilleri explores the tension between the material and the digital, the personal and public by layering techniques and modalities. Conceptually and physically, these works are an extension of Camilleri’s recent research. They rely on a continuous process of creation and erasure, adding new layers while retaining traces of what has gone before, including doubt, chance, and appropriation.
Commissioned by Spazju Kreattiv, Supported by: Visit Malta, Pictures & Frames, Express Trailers, ILabphoto, Magro Brothers, arkafort and recoop.
